A certification is renewed with continuing education by submitting a completed Certification Renewal Application online with the appropriate fee(s). The application includes reporting eligible continuing professional education activities.
Eligible activities include:
- Attending or teaching academic courses
- Completing online courses
- Attending professional organization conferences
- Completing AHA-CC Self-Assessment Examinations
Education credits must be earned during the 3-year certification period and total 45 hours.
Some activities have limitations on maximum allowable hours. Refer to the Qualifying Activities for Recertification (CHFM, CHC, MECH, CHESP, CMRP, CPHRM) or Qualifying Activities for Recertification (CNML, CENP) to determine whether your continuing education credits are eligible.
Documentation/proof of completion is only required with the application if audited and proof is requested. Please keep it on file for at least a year in case of an audit.

How to Submit Renewal by Continuing Education
To submit a Certification Renewal Application, log into the Certification Portal and document the 45 contact hours. Note that your username is your email address.
1) Log in to the Certification Portal and select Manage My Certification Online (below is an example):
2) Click Enter Continuing Education to begin reporting CEs earned.
3) Once the 45 hour minimum is entered, the progress bar will reach 100%, and you can submit the application. After clicking Submit Recertification, you are directed to the renewal fee page.
4) Confirm that the renewal fee is correct (see Renewal Fees chart above). Enter credit card information and then submit for approval.
